Which Linear Models This Applies To

The LS800 and LS1000 share the same slide-gate bracket, but the LA500 and LA1000 clevis brackets are not interchangeable despite looking similar. Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Gate droops or drags on one side. The hinge bracket or operator arm mount has cracked at the weld. The gate still moves because the operator is compensating, but the motor draws 15 to 20 percent more amps and the gearbox wears faster.
• Grinding or popping when the gate starts. This is the bracket flexing before the weld lets go completely. On Linear slide gates in Tempe, we see this most often where the rear pivot plate meets the chain tensioner assembly.
• Operator arm visibly off-center or twisted. The clevis pin hole has elongated. On LA-series swing arms, this happens when the gate leaf catches wind load and the bracket wasn’t gusseted at the factory.
• Fresh rust streaks below the bracket. The paint or powder coat cracked at a stress riser, moisture got in, and the steel is section-lossing from the inside out. Tempe’s dry climate slows this, but monsoon humidity in July and August accelerates it once the coating is breached.
• Gate stops short or reverses for no reason. The bracket has shifted enough to misalign the limit-switch cam or magnetic sensor. The operator thinks it hit an obstacle.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely check: bolt tightness on the bracket with the gate in manual release, and whether the crack is surface-only or through the section. A flashlight and a straightedge will tell you most of what you need to know.

Where DIY goes wrong: welding a loaded bracket without relieving the gate weight first puts tension into the weld that cracks within months. Cutting a bracket free without supporting the operator arm risks dropping 40 to 80 pounds of steel on concrete or foot. And matching the original geometry matters on Linear operators; the limit-switch cam position is referenced to bracket height within 1/8 inch.
