Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Tempe Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Elite-compatible hinge and roller replacements for swing and slide gates throughout Tempe, with most jobs running $180-$340 installed and same-day service when you call before noon. The Elite hinge and roller assemblies we carry cover the CSW, Robo-Swing, and Elite Q025 series lines, plus the common slide-gate roller brackets used on older Miracle-One and Apollo-era hardware that Elite later absorbed into their catalog.
Most Tempe homeowners notice the problem when their gate starts lurching through its arc or dropping a half-inch at the closed position. The hinge pin develops vertical play first, then the roller bearing seizes and chews through the nylon race. By the time the gate is scraping the driveway, the bracket itself is often wallowed out and needs replacement, not just the roller.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate hardware spans three distinct eras, and the hinge or roller you need depends on which one is bolted to your post.
Current CSW and Robo-Swing series (2018-present): These use a 5/8-inch diameter hinge pin with a sealed 6203-2RS bearing in the lower bracket. The upper hinge is a simple oil-impregnated bronze bushing. If your operator arm connects with a standard 4-bolt pattern and the control box is gray with a blue Elite badge, you are in this generation.
Legacy Miracle-One and Apollo hardware (2000-2017): These carried a 3/4-inch hinge pin and an open-grease roller that needed annual service. The telltale is a zerk fitting on the roller bracket, something Elite eliminated in later designs. We stock both the original-spec replacement and a sealed-bearing upgrade that fits the same bolt pattern.
Slide-gate roller assemblies: Elite’s slide systems use a V-groove or flat roller on a 1/2-inch shoulder bolt. The critical spec is the roller width: 2-inch for residential track, 2-1/2-inch for commercial. Measuring the old roller across the face, not the hub, prevents a mismatch.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite Access Systems. We source OEM Elite hardware where it is still manufactured, and where Elite has discontinued a part, we use a quality aftermarket equivalent that matches the original torque and cycle ratings. For the sealed-bearing upgrade on legacy hinges, we have found the DuraGate DB-6203 outlasts the original open design by roughly 40 percent in Arizona dust conditions.
Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

- The gate drops or leans at rest. The lower hinge bearing has worn enough to let the gate leaf settle on the pin shoulder. On a CSW-200, this usually shows first as a gap at the top of the center stop that was not there last season.
- Grinding or popping during the open/close cycle. The roller bearing has lost its grease seal and the balls are running dry. In Tempe’s summer dust, this progresses from noise to seizure in about six weeks of daily use.
- The operator arm strains or faults on limit. A seized roller increases the load the motor sees. The Elite control board interprets this as an obstruction and reverses the gate, or throws a flashing diagnostic code that points to everything except the hinge.
- Visible rust weeping from the hinge barrel. The pin-to-bracket clearance has opened up enough to let monsoon water wick in and sit. Once this starts, the pin scores and the bracket bore is next.
- The gate swings past its stop or bangs the post. Worn hinge play lets the leaf shift in its arc. On a dual-swing system, this causes the center gap to vary and the magnetic lock to miss its strike plate.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Service | Typical Range in Tempe |
|---|---|
| Single hinge/roller replacement (one leaf, one location) | $180-$260 |
| Dual-swing hinge set (upper and lower, both leaves) | $320-$440 |
| Slide-gate roller and shoulder bolt replacement | $160-$240 |
| Bracket weld repair or post reinforcement (if needed) | $80-$140 additional |
The range reflects three variables: whether the existing bracket bolt pattern is intact or wallowed out, whether we are matching OEM Elite hardware or installing the sealed-bearing upgrade, and whether the gate needs to be unbolted from the operator arm to free the hinge. We write the exact price on our scope sheet before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. That price includes the part, labor, alignment check, and a photo log of what was found and what was installed. Every hinge and roller replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?

There is a safe middle ground here, and then there is the point where a helper and a socket set stop being enough.
What you can check yourself: with the gate in the open position and the operator disconnected, lift the free end of the leaf by hand. Vertical movement over 1/8-inch at the latch edge means the lower hinge bearing is worn. Look for the zerk fitting on legacy hardware, or the sealed bearing label on newer units. These checks cost nothing and tell you whether you are looking at a roller issue or a deeper alignment problem.
Where DIY goes wrong: an Elite swing gate on a 16-foot leaf can weigh 400-600 pounds. Even with the operator arm detached, the hinge pin is under that load. Driving out a seized pin without supporting the leaf risks the gate dropping on the driveway, the operator arm, or the person working on it. We have replaced three operator arms this year in Tempe alone after a homeowner’s hinge job went sideways. If your gate is dual-swing, the center stop geometry has to be reset after any hinge work, or the leaves will not meet correctly. That adjustment requires the gate cycled under power with a technician watching the arc.
We carry Elite hinge pins, bearings, and roller assemblies on every service van. If you are not certain which generation you have, call us at (623) 323-3849 and we will walk through the identification over the phone.
FAQs
In normal residential use, a sealed-bearing Elite hinge lasts 8-12 years in the Phoenix metro, but Tempe’s combination of caliche dust and hard-water sprinkler spray cuts that to 5-8 years on lower brackets near the ground. The open-grease legacy rollers need annual lubrication to reach even that shorter span. If you are on a flood-irrigation schedule near the Salt River bottom, check the lower hardware every spring for rust bloom.
Sometimes the bracket can be reamed and bushed if the bore is only slightly wallowed, but the labor cost is nearly the same as replacement and the repair does not carry the same cycle warranty. We recommend this only when the bracket is welded to a custom post cap that would require cutting and re-welding. For standard bolt-on hardware, replacement is the better value. Call (623) 323-3849 and we will assess which path makes sense for your gate.
A single hinge or roller replacement on a standard residential gate takes 45-90 minutes, including removal, installation, and operator reconnection. Dual-swing sets run 2-3 hours because the center gap and magnetic lock alignment have to be verified under power. We schedule these as half-day appointments, not rushed between calls.
We stock the common Elite hinge pins, 6203-2RS sealed bearings, bronze bushings, and both V-groove and flat slide rollers on every van. For discontinued Miracle-One hardware or custom-fabricated brackets, we machine or source within 24-48 hours. We do not ask you to wait a week for a part we should already carry. Call (623) 323-3849 to confirm availability for your specific model.
We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gate systems if your property runs mixed brands.
Name what you found. Name what it costs. Leave the gate better than you met it. That is how we have handled every one of the 22,000-plus gates we have worked on since 2014, and it is what you will get when we replace the hinges or rollers on your Elite system in Tempe.
If your gate is leaning, grinding, or faulting out on its limits, call (623) 323-3849. A live person will answer, we will confirm the part match against your Elite model, and we will give you a written price before any work starts.
