Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts code but gate doesn’t move. The reader is communicating but the relay output to the control board has failed, usually from moisture intrusion at the terminal block. In Tempe, monsoon humidity followed by 115-degree drying cycles crack the potting compound inside the relay housing.

The range depends on three things: which BFT series you’re running, whether the existing wiring and conduit are reusable, and if the control board needs firmware updates to recognize a new reader. DIY or Call Us?
There’s a safe middle ground. You can verify power at the reader with a multimeter, check for obvious wire damage at the base, and confirm the control board’s status LEDs match the manual’s normal-state chart. What we don’t recommend: drilling into gate posts that may contain tension cables, working on live 120VAC supply circuits, or attempting to program BFT encryption keys without the manufacturer’s software suite. The THALIA and RADIUS series require BFT’s proprietary CLONIX or U-Base programming interface, not just button presses.
