Meet the Tempe Team Behind Vance Gate Repair Tempe

We’re the crew that shows up when your gate won’t close at 10 p.m. or your apartment complex needs four new operators before the weekend. Every person on this page is based in the Tempe area, dispatched from our local hub, and trained to the same standard Adrian Vance set back in 2014. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. It’s the habit of writing down what we found, fixing what we said we’d fix, and leaving the job only after the customer has the photo log in hand.

Our People

Adrian Vance, Owner

I started in commercial access control in 2014, wiring badge readers and programming loop detectors for distribution centers in Phoenix. The work was exacting, and I got used to leaving a site with a full diagram of what I’d touched, a photo of every termination, and a signature from the facilities manager. When I opened Vance Gate Repair, I brought that same discipline to residential gates in Tempe. Homeowners deserved the same documentation that warehouse managers got. I still ride along on complex jobs, especially when a customer has been burned by a previous contractor and needs to hear the explanation from the person who wrote the standard. Outside of work, I restore vintage motorcycles, which has made me patient with seized hardware and suspicious of shortcuts.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us since 2019 and handles the calls that make other techs scratch their heads. Last month he traced an intermittent fail-to-close on a dual-swing estate gate in Kiwanis Park to a corroded limit-switch connector that only lost continuity above 105 degrees. He’s certified on LiftMaster, FAAC, and Viking control boards, and he’s the one we send when a property manager calls saying “three other companies looked at it.” Marcus grew up in Mesa, played offensive line at Desert Ridge, and still carries himself like someone who had to remember assignments in a loud huddle. He lives in south Tempe with two rescue pit bulls who, he notes, have never once respected a gate he installed.

Elena R., Senior Installer

Elena runs our new-gate and replacement-motor installs, the work that can’t be rushed because the gate has to fit the opening, not the other way around. She came to us from a structural steel background and reads a site survey the way she used to read beam drawings: every dimension matters, every weld gets a number. Her specialty is retrofitting older masonry columns to accept modern automation without destroying the aesthetic. In 2023 she completed a full custom cantilever install at a historic property near Mill Avenue where the homeowner’s association had rejected three previous proposals. Elena lives in the Maple-Ash neighborhood, commutes by bike when it’s under 90 degrees, and keeps a spreadsheet of every gate she’s installed, sorted by hinge type, which she claims is “just for reference” but we suspect is for bragging rights.

Darnell J., Service Coordinator

Darnell is the voice you hear when you call (623) 323-3849 at midnight on a Saturday. He’s been dispatching our Tempe crew since 2021 and knows which technician is closest to Papago Buttes, who has the Viking parts kit in their van, and whether that “strange grinding noise” is likely a gearbox or a chain tension issue before he even radios the tech. He came to us from hotel front-desk management, which explains why he never sounds rattled by an upset caller. Darnell schedules every job with a realistic window, confirms the technician’s name and ETA by text, and follows up the next day to make sure the photo log arrived. He grew up in Chicago, still complains about the dry heat in June, and maintains an encyclopedic knowledge of Arizona monsoon patterns because “gates act weird when the humidity spikes.”

Sofia M., Apprentice Technician

Sofia joined us in 2024 after completing a mechatronics program at Mesa Community College. She’s in her second year of field training, currently shadowing Marcus on control-board diagnostics and Elena on welding and fabrication. Her first solo repair was a Mighty Mule operator in North Tempe where the previous homeowner had spliced the low-voltage wiring with wire nuts and electrical tape. Sofia replaced the run, sealed it properly, and photographed every connection point. Under Clause 4, the customer got the full record. She lives in the ASU area, tutors math on weekends, and has started keeping her own log of “creative” wiring she’s encountered, which she intends to present to Adrian once it hits fifty entries.

One Standard, Every Job

One Standard, Every Job

The Haven Standard wasn’t designed to be easy. It was designed to be verifiable. Every technician on this page, from Adrian down to Sofia’s second year, follows the same three clauses on every dispatch in Tempe.

Clause 1 (Have it in writing): Before we touch a tool, you get a flat price on paper. Not an estimate. Not a range. The number you’ll pay, period.

Clause 4 (Evidence on every job): We photograph what we found, what we adjusted, and what we replaced. You get the photo log before we leave. It’s filed in your job record permanently.

The 365-Day Done Right Promise: If anything we repaired or installed isn’t right, we make it right. No argument, no fee, no expiration date within that year.

These aren’t marketing phrases. They’re the conditions under which we dispatch. Marcus won’t accept a job without them. Elena won’t close an install without the photo upload. Darnell won’t mark a call complete without the follow-up text. And Sofia is learning that the standard is what separates a technician from a person with a van and a toolbox.

We operate across thirteen cities in the Phoenix metro, but this Tempe crew is who you’ll see. Same people. Same standard. Same written price before the first wrench turns.
