Current CSW and Robo-Swing series (2018-present): These use a 5/8-inch diameter hinge pin with a sealed 6203-2RS bearing in the lower bracket. The upper hinge is a simple oil-impregnated bronze bushing. If your operator arm connects with a standard 4-bolt pattern and the control box is gray with a blue Elite badge, you are in this generation.

Legacy Miracle-One and Apollo hardware (2000-2017): These carried a 3/4-inch hinge pin and an open-grease roller that needed annual service. The telltale is a zerk fitting on the roller bracket, something Elite eliminated in later designs. We stock both the original-spec replacement and a sealed-bearing upgrade that fits the same bolt pattern.

Slide-gate roller assemblies: Elite’s slide systems use a V-groove or flat roller on a 1/2-inch shoulder bolt. The critical spec is the roller width: 2-inch for residential track, 2-1/2-inch for commercial. Measuring the old roller across the face, not the hub, prevents a mismatch.

Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

• The gate drops or leans at rest. The lower hinge bearing has worn enough to let the gate leaf settle on the pin shoulder. On a CSW-200, this usually shows first as a gap at the top of the center stop that was not there last season.
• Grinding or popping during the open/close cycle. The roller bearing has lost its grease seal and the balls are running dry. In Tempe’s summer dust, this progresses from noise to seizure in about six weeks of daily use.
• The operator arm strains or faults on limit. A seized roller increases the load the motor sees. The Elite control board interprets this as an obstruction and reverses the gate, or throws a flashing diagnostic code that points to everything except the hinge.
• Visible rust weeping from the hinge barrel. The pin-to-bracket clearance has opened up enough to let monsoon water wick in and sit. Once this starts, the pin scores and the bracket bore is next.
• The gate swings past its stop or bangs the post. Worn hinge play lets the leaf shift in its arc. On a dual-swing system, this causes the center gap to vary and the magnetic lock to miss its strike plate.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a safe middle ground here, and then there is the point where a helper and a socket set stop being enough.

What you can check yourself: with the gate in the open position and the operator disconnected, lift the free end of the leaf by hand. Vertical movement over 1/8-inch at the latch edge means the lower hinge bearing is worn. Look for the zerk fitting on legacy hardware, or the sealed bearing label on newer units. These checks cost nothing and tell you whether you are looking at a roller issue or a deeper alignment problem.

Where DIY goes wrong: an Elite swing gate on a 16-foot leaf can weigh 400-600 pounds. Even with the operator arm detached, the hinge pin is under that load. Driving out a seized pin without supporting the leaf risks the gate dropping on the driveway, the operator arm, or the person working on it. If your gate is dual-swing, the center stop geometry has to be reset after any hinge work, or the leaves will not meet correctly.
