Ghost Controls Access Control Installation: The Tempe Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible access control hardware in Tempe, with most residential keypad, remote receiver, or exit sensor installations running between $340 and $780 depending on whether we’re adding to an existing Ghost Controls operator or wiring a standalone system. Same-day service is available when the part is already in your model series and the low-voltage run doesn’t need trenching. Most Tempe homeowners find us after their Ghost Controls keypad stops responding to PIN entry, the remote range drops to under ten feet, or the exit wand fails to trigger the gate from the driveway side.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls organizes its access control around three operator families: the TSS (Titan) series for heavy residential swing gates, the DTP (Deer) series for standard single and dual swing, and the AX series linear actuators. The access control components are not fully cross-compatible. TSS-series operators use a 24-volt accessory bus that accepts the premium AXWK wireless keypad and the AXLV vehicle sensor; DTP-series units run on 12-volt accessories and need the DP2K keypad or the older RC1 remote receiver board. The labels are on the operator housing, usually on the motor cover near the hinge side.

We carry both OEM Ghost Controls parts and select aftermarket equivalents that match the voltage draw and weatherproofing spec. The aftermarket DP2K-compatible keypad we stock has a UV-stabilized face that holds up better than OEM in south-facing Tempe installations where summer cabinet temperatures hit 140°F. For the RC1 receiver, we prefer OEM because the pairing protocol is proprietary and aftermarket boards often drop sync after power outages. If you’re not sure which series you have, text us a photo of the operator label and we’ll match the part before we dispatch.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad buttons register but the gate doesn’t move. This usually means the keypad is communicating but the operator’s accessory bus has lost voltage, often from a failed rectifier board or corroded terminal block inside the control box. In Tempe, we see this after monsoon moisture gets past the gasket.
  • Remote works only within arm’s reach of the gate. The RC1 or RC2 receiver antenna has degraded, or the receiver board itself is failing to amplify the 433 MHz signal. Metal fence posts and stucco walls in Tempe’s older neighborhoods compound the problem.
  • Exit wand triggers randomly or not at all. The AXLV or DPS vehicle sensor is reading ground mineral changes instead of metal mass, which happens when the sensitivity drifts or the cable shielding cracks under UV exposure. Arizona’s hardpan soil makes false triggers more common than in clay regions.
  • Intermittent operation that clears after a power cycle. The access control module is drawing just enough current to brown out the operator’s logic board during peak motor load. We log the amperage under load to confirm before replacing either part.
  • Keypad display dim or unreadable after dark. The LED backlight inverter has failed, or the faceplate seal has leaked and clouded the lens. This is cosmetic until monsoon season, when water ingress turns it into a full keypad failure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Tempe
Keypad replacement (OEM or aftermarket) $340 - $520
Remote receiver board swap $380 - $580
Exit sensor / vehicle loop install $480 - $780
Full access control add-on to existing operator $620 - $940

The range depends on three things: whether we’re matching to an existing Ghost Controls operator or starting fresh, how far the low-voltage wiring needs to run from operator to keypad or sensor, and whether we need to add a separate transformer for accessory power. Every quote is written and handed over before work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. The part number, serial number, and installed position are photographed and left with you. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and the part.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s safe owner-level troubleshooting and there’s work that belongs on a meter. You can check the accessory fuse inside the Ghost Controls control box, verify that the keypad cable hasn’t been chewed by rodents, and confirm the antenna isn’t coiled against metal. What we don’t recommend: opening the operator’s logic board enclosure while powered, splicing low-voltage cable without proper gel-filled connectors, or attempting to program a new keypad without the operator’s manual pairing sequence. Ghost Controls uses a timed button-press sequence that varies by series, and a failed pairing attempt can lock the receiver into a factory-reset loop that requires a technician visit to clear. If you’re in Tempe and the keypad still won’t pair after two tries, call (623) 323-3849. We’ll quote the fix in writing before we pick up a tool.
